Sossusvlei

An unbuilt project located on a rocky outcrop in the Sossiesvlei, Namibia . The site is characterised by  relentless winds   and extreme temperature fluctuations through the seasons  , but  extraordinarily photographic  vistas and red sand dunes . The building acts as a counterpoint to the rugged landscape – lifted up off the desert floor , and built with vermiculite and slagment  packed in Finnbuilder shuttering for its cooling properties with infill insulated canvas panels  . The form of the building prioritizes “respite” from the temperatures and wind and provides a platform and “container “ from which to view the extraordinary landscape and night skies  . This project was done in collaboration with Wilderness Safaris.
